  • The Big Energy Race: Powering Change Across London’s Workspaces

    The Big Energy Race is a Workspace portfolio wide energy reduction campaign. The campaign was first delivered in February 2024 and after a successful month of tenant engagement and energy reduction is was repeated in November 2024. In the latest campaign, Each site was given an energy saving target, dependent on its previous energy consumption. The sites were categorised in four clusters and the site in each cluster that surpassed its energy-saving target by most won trees planted in the UK.

  • Workman’s Project Management team and CBRE IM collaborate to showcase how sustainable retrofits meet ESG targets and attract investors

    Each year in the UK, 50,000 buildings are demolished, resulting in high carbon emissions and rates of material waste. An increasing number of investors are turning to retrofit strategies to achieve Net Zero targets and create commercial benefits across portfolios. In response to this, the Projects division of MAP Member Workman adopted a retrofit strategy for 10 Brindleyplace, Birmingham, founded on a Net Zero Asset Plan developed by Workman’s ESG team. Commissioned by BBP Member CBRE Investment Management, the resulting building is Net Zero in operation, achieving BREEAM Excellent. 10 Brindleyplace is expected to deliver a 65% annual energy saving compared to a typical office of equal size, alongside quality occupier amenities that support the health and wellbeing of those working there.

  • Bringing Net Zero Ambitions to Life Through Bespoke Training

    Savills Investment Management (Savills IM) prioritises continuous upskilling and training across sustainability topics, including their net zero objectives. In the evolving landscape of climate science, regulations and reporting standards, Savills IM ensures up to date ESG learning and development training programmes are available for every Savills IM employee, across all disciplines and teams. In 2023, Savills IM internally launched their Net Zero Whole Life Carbon training series, delivered by their Sustainability & Net Zero Lead and offered to all employees globally. Throughout 2023, all Savills IM employees received ESG-related training to better understand their role in achieving Savills IM’s ESG objectives, including net zero carbon, with further implementation of training currently in progress.

  • IM Properties prove sustainable refurbishments are better for people, place and planet

    As the sector increasingly focuses on refurbishments to meet climate goals, The Bourn building in Coventry is a prime example of successful sustainability-driven refurbishment which reduced 14,000 tonnes CO2e compared to a new-build alternative. With a £9 million investment by IM Properties (IMP), the asset has been transformed into a modern workplace with a focus on occupier collaboration to deliver sustainability, wellbeing and community benefits.

  • Workman’s IBOS drives energy savings across 4m sq ft

    Workman has partnered with clients to roll out its Intelligent Building Operating System (IBOS) across more than 4 million sq ft of commercial space. Results prove the power of smart tech to immediately improve building performance. This is particularly pertinent in the context of spiralling energy prices, the climate emergency and hybrid working patterns that have made traditional operating practices deeply inefficient. Clients adopting the technology include Blackrock, Columbia Threadneedle and Federated Hermes.

  • Rooftop Gardening Brings Together Occupiers

    Abrdn and JLL’s rooftop garden at The White Building in Reading is boosting health and wellbeing, as occupiers from different organisations nurture their plants and enjoy the green space together. As well as growing a sense of community in the building, the project is also enriching biodiversity. The facilities management team has already developed more ideas to extend social and environmental benefits, creating new opportunities for occupier engagement.

  • Bio-enzyme Cleaning Cuts Carbon and Boosts Wellbeing at The Bower

    02 December 2021

    At The Bower in Old Street, London, the owner Helical PLC and managing agent Ashdown Phillips ran an innovative tender process that led to the introduction of bio-enzyme cleaning. All products are now distilled on-site, avoiding single-use plastics, cutting carbon emissions and delivering healthier cleaning performance with less use of hazardous chemicals. Following the success of this pilot, the team is now exploring opportunities to rollout bio-enzyme cleaning at additional sites.
